The Bucket List and other life essentials

“ (pointing at altimeter) We’re at 3000 ft now” “(thumbs up) Great!… How high are we going?” “14000 ft” “Oh, cool” internal monologue and nervous laughter… “aaauummm… 11000 ft higher?! So, um, we’re pretty fuckin high already…”   Goals, dreams, wunderlust – whatever you want to call it – we should all have things we want to do. The Bucket List. A safari on the Serengeti, overcoming the fear of public speaking, diving with great whites, writing a book, learning to make the perfect pasta by hand, running naked in a rainstorm, solving a rubiks cube without pulling it apart … Continue reading The Bucket List and other life essentials

Adventuresontoast New York Pt 5: Eat

Howdy Toasters, NY without Pizza would be like Bert without Ernie so within moments of putting my bags down incredible pizza from Brooklyn’s Speedy Romeo was in one hand while the other tickled a Mimosa.. just for fun… that’s my kind start to a NY Summer. Street meat trucks, carts and grills, pretzel pushers, dodgy diners, silver service, DIY, easy eats and home delivered sashimi, when it comes to food, and just about everything else, New York simmers with every taste you can imagine… I stalked the dumpling truck like a Yenta at a wedding, cured my schvitzing with Vermont … Continue reading Adventuresontoast New York Pt 5: Eat

Adventuresontoast new york pt 4: Fire Island

Howdy Toasters, It all started when the Alabama Sparkle said “Gurl you better be packing drag for Fire Island. Queens run the world up in here on July 4 , you & I are gettin fierce together”…  Lady Toast was going international.. this will be interesting I thought. The first question was how to squeeze a drag queen, albeit a dismantled one, into a holiday suitcase, … the hair alone took up the space reserved for my top 3 adidas hi-tops… (Funnily enough “Do I really need to schlep the Lady drag all the way to NewYork?” wasn’t even a … Continue reading Adventuresontoast new york pt 4: Fire Island

adventuresontoast – New York pt 2 : The drinking game

Howdy Toasters, So one of the lessons learned, actually remembered is probably better terminology, while adventuring is that US bars serve booze in a way designed to knock an elephant off it’s trunk in one sip. Now the art of drinking, remaining upright, joyous and conversational is one that, a few minor incidents aside, is one that I’m fairly well practiced in. I’ve been Valedictorian at the Veuve Cliquot Championships, Petron’s People’s Choice Winner, Wild Turkey’s Top Turkey and labeled Cognac Mack by Hennessey but not even this number of alcoholic accolades had me prepared. One shot from a drag … Continue reading adventuresontoast – New York pt 2 : The drinking game

AdventuresOnToast – New York: Part 1 (Sydney > New York flight)

Howdy Toasters! The question with a place like New York is how much can you squeeze into 2 weeks…and the answer is somewhere around π ! With emotions that ranged from excitement and elation at what lay ahead and deep sadness at what, emotionally, I was leaving behind* AdventuresOnToast -New York edition had begun. (* to see what was behind me read my previous toast )  Adidas, blue and white was the chosen flight theme and with more coordination than any man needs at 6am it was a pretty gay beginning actually. Through take off and the first hour of the flight I’m not too … Continue reading AdventuresOnToast – New York: Part 1 (Sydney > New York flight)

642:10 What does writers block feel like?

Howdy Toasters, Nothing is flowing. Finding my characters, creating their story, bringing them to life, writing something interesting, finishing an idea, it’s just not happening. Every idea sounds too self interested, not creative enough, too creative, bland, copies of other pieces I’ve read or just not very good. I’m annoyed, frustrated and i want to give up. The more i try the more it feels forced and the less anything, even anything bad, bubbles to the surface. Ideas for stories stare out at me, teasing me, tormenting me… i just don’t where to take any of them. In the (clearly … Continue reading 642:10 What does writers block feel like?
